General information about the PDRS
GSES has published a good guide that is easier to read that the government document.
BESS 1 (all eligible battery systems)
This applies to all eligible battery systems from 2-28kWh. The number of PRCs a system is eligible for is based on this formula:
= (Battery usable kWh x 76.77 x network loss factor) rounded down.
The network loss factors are:
- Ausgrid: 1.04,
- Endeavour and Essential Energy: 1.05.
The PRC price will vary from time to time and as of mid Nov is commonly being quoted to customers at $2 ex GST
So, to work out the total subsidy payment, we use these formulas:
BESS 1 Ausgrid = (Battery usable kWh x 76.77 x 1.04) rounded down, x $2
BESS 1 Endeavour & EE = (Battery usable kWh x 76.77 x 1.05) rounded down, x $2
SolarPlus can do this calculation automatically for you. You just need to create a new inventory item for each option as per the instructions below.
BESS 2 (optional extra for systems on a VPP)
This is an option that can be claimed in addition to the BESS 1 subsidy, if the system is part of a Virtual Power Plant.
To calculate the number of PRCs for a system connected to a VPP, we use these formulas:
BESS 2 Ausgrid = (Battery usable kWh x 11.646 x 1.04) rounded down, x $2
BESS 2 Endeavour & EE = (Battery usable kWh x 11.646 x 1.05) rounded down, x $2
Create the rebate items in your inventory
- go to More Settings > Inventory
- click Add Custom Item
- under Category, select Subsidy
- under name, enter NSW Battery Rebate BESS 1 (Ausgrid).
- click save
- select Apply Sales Tax
- upload this Battery Fact Sheet in the brochure section
- add a pricing option - use a formula price if you would like the number of PRCs to be calculated automatically. If the PRC price is $2, then use this formula:
floor ((usable-battery-kwh * 76.77 1.04)) * 2
- follow the same process to create custom inventory items for all 4 rebate variations.
Use the following formulas to calculate the rebate price:
BESS 1 Ausgrid |
|
BESS 1 Endeavour & EE |
|
BESS 2 (VPP) Ausgrid |
|
BESS 2 (VPP) Endeavour & EE |
|
- The part in brackets is the number of PRCs, rounded down to the nearest whole number
- The last number (2) in the formulas above is the certificate price ex GST. $2 is just an example price.
- If you want to use a different PRC price, adjust the final number in the formula. Please note that if you edit a formula, it will update the price in all of the quotes you have added that formula to. So, if you want to edit the price and not change existing quotes, please create a new pricing option and set the new one as the default. For more info see this video.
- SolarPlus calculates the usable battery kWh based on the manufacturer's datasheet, factoring in the Depth of Discharge if you change it on the Solar and Battery design page. This number is correct to 2 decimal places. If you notice a difference between the calculation output in SolarPlus and another online calculator, please check the usable battery capacity is correct to 2 decimal places, and that the correct network (Ausgrid / Endeavour & Essential Energy) is selected.
- The 76.77 value is a simplification of: the BESS1 constant (0.0853) x firmness factor (1) x lifetime in years (15) x summer peak demand reduction hours (6) x and conversion from kW to 0.1kW (10). Similar for the 11.646.
Manual option
Alternatively, you can avoid using a formula and just create a simple inventory item, and put the price per item as $2. Then when you apply it to the quote, adjust the quantity based on how many PRCs the system is eligible for.
Alternative 2(not recommended - see the note on the link below) - you can use the Category “Discount” or any other category like the “Administrative” item category in the inventory which applies the rebate to the quote before the Total GST is calculated. So, the “total GST” line on the quote is affected by the subsidy amount. The rebate appears as a line item in the quote table with a negative price. See more here
