The NETCC replaces the CEC’s Approved Solar Retailer program. It comes into effect on Feb 1st 2023, and there is a 6 month transition period for companies who were ASRs. Here’s our guide for how to comply with the new requirements for quotes and handover manuals. There are some other requirements related to general business practices, so be sure to read the full document here.
Terms and Conditions: There are a few clauses to add to your current ASR-compliant T&Cs:
6.2 If approval from the Electricity Network Provider for connection to the Electricity Network and/or reconfiguration of your meter is required, the Electricity Network Provider may impose a charge for connection to the Electricity Network and/or reconfiguring the meter.
6.3 If applicable, we will support you through the necessary steps if you decide to obtain Electricity Network connection approval yourselves, and we will advise you before commencing works if there will be any non-refundable charge for this assistance.
15.5 We will provide you with a final response to your complaint within 25 business days of receipt of your complaint, unless we have both agreed to a further extension.
18 New Energy Tech Consumer Code
18.1 We are bound by the New Energy Tech Consumer Code.
19. Equipment Disposal at End-of-life
19.1 Disposal options for solar modules, inverters and batteries are rapidly evolving. When the need arises, please contact your local waste management authority for options in your area.
Please contact support for a compliant file to use.
Quote - Proposal template and quote doc.
SolarPlus already covers configuration and performance.
If applicable to a given design, you can add the following information in the quote conditions tab (on Edit Quote page):
Limitations eg, where a battery does not provide a back-up facility
How the proposed system may integrate with the customer’s existing system.
Product Year is not actually required - we contacted the CEC and they are not enforcing this requirement for Solar and Batteries, given the difficulty of getting the information at the quote stage, and the low usefulness of stating it.
Services (eg maintenance): If you offer a maintenance service, include the following details in the service product name in your inventory:
The nature and purpose of the service
Whether the service is ongoing, scheduled ,or upon request
The duration of the service and whether it will be provided remotely or on site
Eg Product: “Annual Maintenance Check, including cleaning, system safety and performance checks, conducted on-site upon request”
This is a good opportunity to select ‘Upsell optional extra’ to be able to include this offer to clients and increase sales.
Grid Connection:
You can include information about Grid Connection by adding it to your terms and conditions (recommended) or adding it to your email template.
If you want to give distributor-specific information, you can create a new inventory item eg “Distributor XYZ connection information” and attach the information as a brochure to that inventory item, then add it to the quote as necessary.
Include info relevant to your region, covering:
Encourage the customer to contact their Energy Supplier about any restrictions that may be in place for the tech to interact with the Energy Network, and offer to arrange this on the customer’s behalf.
Explain the steps for seeking approval and/or reconfiguration of the meter prior to installation
State that they will support the customer if they decide to obtain grid connection themselves, and explain if there will be any non-refundable charges for this
Outline how the proposed new energy tech may impact the customers' existing relationship with their Energy Supplier
Warranties:
Ensure Australian warranty documents are uploaded into your inventory. See this page in the Help Centre for how to do this. The Australian contact details of the manufacturer are included in their Australia-specific warranty documents. When you send a quote, select the “include pdfs” option. There has been some confusion about whether you need to list the Wholesaler’s contact details. We’ve confirmed with the CEC that you don’t - the manufacturer’s contact details are fine as ‘supplier’ details.
Unsolicited proposal Termination and cooling-off rights disclosure
Do you send unsolicited proposals to customers? If so, please contact SolarPlus to update your proposal templates to include a new paragraph informing customers of their 10-day cooling off period. Or you can update your templates yourself following instructions here.
Power Purchase Agreements
You should include in the quote conditions all associated fees and charges, and your rights to change pricing and provide notice of this change to the customer
Please contact us for an updated PPA proposal template to include the following required information:
An estimate of the total amount paid over the agreement’s term based on a stated reasonable estimate of the customer’s energy usage.
The basis of the calculation and, if it applies, the amount of energy that will be exported to the Energy Network.
That the customer must pay the stated energy price for the term of the contract and that this amount may not reflect or be competitive with prices from the Energy Network.
End of life and maintenance costs.
Maintenance and disposal costs can currently be added in Edit Quote. Use the re-investment cost B for disposal costs, and set the year to the same year as the expected life of the system. See instructions for how to do this here.
End-of-life disposal information can be included in your T&Cs. We ran this wording by the CEC and they’re happy with it: “Disposal options for solar modules, inverters and batteries are rapidly evolving. When the need arises, please contact your local waste management authority for options in your area.”
We will add the expected life of the system to the Key Assumptions section of the proposal (the box with the electricity tariffs etc). You can edit this period in the Financials tab of the Pricing page.
Operating Information
To easily include operating instructions for monitoring devices in the system handover manual, just upload the instructions pdf in the inventory, the same as you did for the warranty.
